Occasionally HFSD is put in a position of having to watch from the sidelines a bill that otherwise would have been a great rallying point. That is where we are at with SB211. As we mentioned in an earlier newsletter, the Governor’s bill is not one that we could fully support. Today, the governor's bill was gutted and amended on the House Floor. The current amendment mirrors Representative Gosch's bill that was voted down in the Senate Health & Human Services committee hearing last week (HB1258).
Since the wording is almost identical, HFSD believes that SB211 won't make it through the Senate in its amended form. Also, because this bill is so distorted from the Governor's original version, if it were to be passed by the Senate, the likelihood of Governor Noem vetoing it is very high. For these reasons, HFSD is encouraging you to connect with your Senators, and let them know how you would like them to vote. However, we will not be issuing a formal Call To Action at this time. We want to make sure that, in the future, our Calls To Action involve legislation that has a fighting chance to advance to the next stage. We value the energy our group has, and we want to put it to use wisely.
In the meantime, pay attention to how your senator votes. We have important primaries and elections approaching. Gathering information on legislator voting history will help you make an informed decision when you vote.
God’s freedom and blessings,
HFSD
For those paying attention, this is going to be a very informative vote! We're about to see the true colors of Lee Schoenbeck and Kristi Noem... One way or another....
